Gabby & Kenny Logan in conversation for special episode of The Mid•Point

Gabby Logan has released a special one-off episode of her podcast The Mid•Point, in conversation with her husband Kenny.

On 8th February 2022, Kenny was diagnosed with prostate cancer; this is the first time they have spoken about his diagnosis publicly.

Kenny went for a general check-up at the doctors after hearing several guests on Gabby’s podcast discuss having their hormones tested.

His results showed a high PSA level which can be a sign of prostate cancer, and he was subsequently diagnosed after seeing a specialist urologist. Luckily Kenny’s cancer was solely in his prostate, so together with his surgeon they made the decision to have his prostate removed to eliminate the possibility of the cancer developing or returning.

The episode covers everything from Kenny’s diagnosis and the surgery itself, to public perception and long-term considerations such as erectile dysfunction. It’s a warm, moving conversation between the couple who have been married for 21 years, including a particularly touching interaction recorded 12 hours before Kenny’s surgery. Listeners will also hear from Declan Cahill, expert urologist and Kenny’s surgeon.

Kenny highlights that when it comes to seeing a doctor, seeking out testing, and discussing health concerns openly, men in particular are often notoriously bad at doing so. He is keen for this to change and encourages men to “talk to your mates… be open, don’t be scared to say how you feel”.

Prostate cancer is often treatable if caught early enough, but sadly thousands of men are diagnosed too late every year as symptoms often don’t show up until the cancer is advanced.

Gabby and Kenny decided to share their story publicly to help increase awareness of the most common cancer in men and consulted with leading men’s charity Prostate Cancer UK on the launch of this episode. They are now encouraging men to know their own risk, and visit Prostate Cancer UK’s 30 second online risk checker to see if they should consider talking to their GP.

The Mid•Point is available on all major podcast platforms. This special one-off episode with Kenny is released today, 7 September. Series 6 launches on 14 September.
