BBC 5 Live’s podcast Gangster: The Story of the Daniels and the Lyons is returning with a bonus episode investigating the shocking killing of two Scots on the Costa del Sol.
This bonus episode, hosted by Livvy Haydock, examines the deaths of Eddie Lyons Jr. and Ross Monaghan, who were shot dead outside Monaghan’s Bar in Fuengirola on 31 May this year.
Spanish police believe the shooting was a targeted gangland hit linked to the decades-long feud between the Daniels and Lyons crime families in Glasgow.
The victims, both connected to the Lyons side, were ambushed as they sat outside the bar. The gunman escaped across train tracks and through a tunnel to avoid CCTV cameras.
Investigators are now considering whether individuals linked to the Daniels crew may have been involved.
However, Scottish police have said they are not aware of any evidence suggesting the murders were planned from Scotland or directly linked to the feud.
The killings come as violence continues to escalate in Glasgow and Edinburgh, where members of the Daniels clan and their associates have recently been targeted in fire-bombings and machete attacks.
Livvy Haydock said: “This was a brazen and brutal attack in a busy Spanish resort, but for those who’ve followed the story, a link to the feud wouldn’t be entirely surprising.
“This feud has already claimed lives in Scotland. Now it appears to have reached the Costa del Sol.
“We’ve spoken to witnesses and reporters on the ground in Spain and asked former detectives for their analysis on how the double killing was planned and carried out.
“In this episode, we investigate whether the feud has travelled this far and who might actually be pulling the strings.”
