People living with irritable bowel syndrome can hear directly from UK digestive health specialists in a new interview series on the Inside Knowledge for people with IBS podcast.
Hosted by Bristol based nutritional therapist Anna Mapson, the series brings together medical and health professionals to discuss symptoms including abdominal pain, bloating, wind and irregular bowel movements.
Guests already featured include consultant gastroenterologist Professor Hayee, NHS GP Dr Ewart, a pelvic health physiotherapist and a hypermobility specialist.
The aim is to provide listeners with evidence-based information from a range of professional perspectives.
Topics covered include the possibility that some people diagnosed with diarrhoea predominant IBS may instead have bile acid diarrhoea, a condition that can be treated.
Another episode explores how hypermobility of connective tissue may affect digestive motility and contribute to symptoms experienced by some patients.
Anna Mapson has worked as a nutritional therapist for 10 years and supports digestive health clients online around the world.
In January this year, she published the book Inside Knowledge for people with IBS and SIBO, which is available in paperback and Kindle editions.
The interview series expands on a podcast that has been running since May 2023 and has released 155 episodes.
Earlier editions mainly featured 20-minute solo episodes in which Anna discussed nutrition and lifestyle topics linked to IBS.
Subjects covered have included the low FODMAP diet, bloating, constipation and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, commonly known as SIBO.
Anna said: “This series of the Inside Knowledge podcast has brought some really relevant and useful perspectives on irritable bowel syndrome. There is an amazing selection of people who support digestive disorders and it’s going to be so useful for listeners with a sensitive digestion.”
Weekly episodes are available on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
