Mongabay expands podcast reach with new French and Indonesian shows

Environmental news outlet Mongabay has launched new podcasts in French and Bahasa Indonesia, expanding its multilingual offering to four languages.

The non-profit platform, which marks its 26th year in 2025, already produces audio content in Spanish and English. Its move into additional languages forms part of a wider effort to reach global audiences in ways that reflect their preferences and access.

“Producing podcasts in multiple languages is part of our nonprofit news outlet’s strategy to reach people where they are, in the mediums they prefer, and in the languages they use,” said Rhett Ayers Butler, founder and CEO of Mongabay.

The two existing English-language podcasts have received industry recognition. The Mongabay Newscast, aimed at a global audience, won its first award in 2024.

Meanwhile, Everything Environment, which focuses on India, was named “Best Produced Science Show” at the 2025 India Audio Summit & Awards. Both are shortlisted for further honours at the upcoming Publisher Podcast Awards, taking place in London on 11 June.

Mongabay’s new French and Indonesian podcasts will deliver stories of environmental importance to communities most directly affected by biodiversity and conservation challenges.

Founded in 1999, Mongabay operates as a non-profit and produces original, daily environmental reporting from five regional bureaus. It publishes in six languages and reaches millions of readers every month with stories on conservation, climate, and ecological research.

This latest podcast expansion continues its commitment to accessibility, environmental awareness, and journalism without borders.
