New Luigi Mangione podcast explores case ripped from the headlines

Law&Crime is launching the first of its podcasts for 2025, LUIGI, available exclusively on Wondery+ and produced in collaboration with Wheelhouse’s Twist Media.

Hosted by Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber, LUIGI is more than a true crime podcast – it’s an exploration of the cultural divide marked by the public response to the cold-blooded killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on the streets of New York City.

In a case that has captured headlines since December of last year, authorities claim 26-year-old Luigi Mangione took an Ivy League education and significant planning to make a fatal statement about the rising cost of healthcare in America by allegedly shooting Thompson on his way to an investors’ meeting.

Law&Crime invites listeners into a thorough journey through the five-day interstate manhunt for the alleged extremist, all while also provoking reflection on the rampant and polarising network of TikTok – driven supporters who rose up around him in the aftermath.

Over the course of four initial episodes, LUIGI offers legal insight into the still unfolding case that has already been dubbed the trial of the decade. It also explores its position within a heated national conversation on corporate power and class divide.

Through all-new court documents and key interviews with attorneys, analysts, investigators and others close to the case, LUIGI shows a culture at its tipping point and brings together the two divergent narratives that have exploded online.

These are Mangione as a suspected calculated monster, versus a vocal internet discourse that has rallied in support of the #FreeLuigi movement.

All episodes of LUIGI will be available exclusively on Wondery+ from 24 March.
