New podcast Diddy on Trial to be launched on BBC Sounds
The shocking allegations and conspiracies swirling around one of hip-hop’s biggest moguls, Sean “Diddy” Combs, are investigated in a new BBC Sounds podcast.
A huge name in the music industry, Diddy is now behind bars in a New York jail awaiting trial, accused of sex trafficking, transportation for prostitution and racketeering conspiracy. He denies all the allegations.
BBC journalist Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty looks for the truth behind the headlines and considers how these allegations have put hip hop, and the wider music industry firmly under the spotlight.
The podcast explores the conspiracy theories that threaten to bring down Hollywood, and rumours of entertainment’s biggest names being complicit in abuse. Anoushka hears from alleged victims, who say their stories expose a dark underbelly beneath the glitz and glamour.
With the lines between fact and fiction blurring, the internet is buzzing with wild rumours. Anoushka will be joined each week by expert guests and insiders right at the heart of the story. Together they’ll consider every line of inquiry and interrogate what’s true and what’s not.
Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty said: “I was raised on Hip-Hop, and if you know Hip-Hop you know P-Diddy. He wasn’t just a hit maker or talent spotter; he was fundamental in manoeuvring the music from something on the fringes of pop culture into the mainstream.
“When the allegations emerged, it was obvious how big this could be. But it’s also fertile ground for rumour, and conspiracy. I’m looking forward to unpacking what’s true.
“I know everyone has so many questions so we’re here to investigate the rumours, confront the theories, and give you the answers you need. I want to hear from you so get in touch and send us your thoughts.”
Rhian Roberts, Commissioning Editor, said: “With the P Diddy story you can end up disappearing down any number of rabbit-holes; the BBC’s Diddy On Trial podcast will give time to the best of our reporters and guest experts to bring you the very latest on the case itself and unpack how we got here, as well as assessing the rumours, claims and counter claims to separate fact from fiction.”
Episode One will be available from 6am on BBC Sounds on Thursday 28 November and will bring all the very latest from the courtroom, including an update on Diddy’s latest bail application and the prosecution’s claim he has been trying to talk to witnesses from his prison cell.
Joining Anoushka will be Rolling Stone journalist Cheyenne Roundtree who has been investigating Diddy for months and Shaun Kent a criminal defence attorney who has become the go-to on social media about Diddy.
Episodes of the podcast will also be available to watch on the official BBC World Service YouTube channel.
