Salford-based Audio Always has launched a new podcast exploring how artificial intelligence is transforming everyday life in the Liverpool City Region.
The six-part documentary series, AI & Us: The Future in Our Hands, is hosted by actor and science communicator Stephen McGann. It combines human stories with cutting-edge innovation to show how AI is being used to improve lives in healthcare, mental health, housing, social care, music, and sport.
The series is part of a civic experiment led by the Civic Data Cooperative, funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and supported by the University of Liverpool’s Civic Health Innovation Labs. It reflects Mayor Steve Rotheram’s vision for a more inclusive, ethical, and community-led AI future.
“Artificial Intelligence is no longer science fiction. It’s here – in our hospitals, our communities, even our homes,” says McGann. “This podcast is about understanding how we can guide it with purpose, ethics and heart.”
Audio Always says the podcast is designed to spark national conversations around AI’s role in public life and the responsibility of those developing it.
Episodes include topics such as whether AI can transform the NHS without compromising data, how it could deepen democracy or widen the digital divide, and whether AI is a threat to creatives or a new collaborator.
AI & Us: The Future in Our Hands is available now on all podcast platforms.
