Taking Apart Terror is a podcast from The Global Coalition Against Daesh exploring how much we really know about terrorism and what is being done to stop it.
For the first time ever, world’s leading counter terrorism and extremism experts as well as former Al-Qaeda recruiters explore the word of terrorism. They look at who funds terrorists, the role women play in terrorist organisations, how much pro-ISIS content exists on social media and how terrorists organise themselves to plan atrocities around the world.
Terrorist groups across the world are organised, sophisticated, and still pose a serious threat to our way of life. The Taking Apart Terror podcast focuses on helping listeners understand the complexities and implications of terrorism – particularly Islamist extremism – in the world today.
Last week, there was a special edition of the podcast – Afghanistan: Has our world just got more dangerous?
As we focused on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and the start of the ‘war on terror’ last weekend, it seems the global terrorism picture is more complex and disturbing than ever… A Taliban government in Afghanistan appointing one of the west’s most wanted as its’ minister of the interior; the increasing prominence and proliferation of deadly Islamist extremist groups such as Isis K and TPP; the beginning of France’s biggest ever terrorism trial; deadly extremist attacks flaring up worldwide from New Zealand to Nigeria.
The podcast is hosted by Adnan Sarwar, an award-winning television presenter and journalist. A former British soldier who served in the Iraq war alongside the US Marines, he has substantial hostile environment experience as a soldier and as a journalist.
Contributors on this special edition podcast episode include Dr Shiraz Maher: Director at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence at King’s College London, Suddaf Chaudry: A freelance journalist currently in Kabul and in daily contact with the Taliban, Nabi Sahak: Former Afghan solider, now an academic researcher and Emerita Torres: Senior Research Fellow at The Soufan Centre.
