Global is launching a major new podcast exploring the crime, policing and national security stories shaping modern Britain.
The Crime Agents is hosted by former Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner and former Head of UK Counter Terror Policing, Neil Basu, and LBC Crime Correspondent and investigative journalist Andy Hughes.
The series reveals what really goes on behind locked doors – from counter-terror operations and youth violence to corruption and the murky politics of modern policing.
Featuring exclusive interviews, original reporting, and sharp analysis with insider access you won’t hear anywhere else, Neil and Andy uncover the deeper truths and societal issues shaping law and order in Britain today.
Neil Basu, whose three-decade career in policing saw him lead the UK’s counter-terror response, said: “After 30 years dedicating my life to law enforcement, I’m watching it in distress. We are all fascinated by the subject, but there is little balance in the furious discussions of what is happening and why.
“This is my chance to give you that balance – the inside scoop on the major crime stories of our day which intrigue us all, and it’s a chance to meet and test the people who protect us.
“I’m excited to be part of what I see as another vital public service. Even if I’m not fighting crime these days, The Crime Agents will help you fight the fear of crime by giving you the understanding, perspective, and knowledge you can’t get in the news or a social media soundbite.”
Andy Hughes, who has investigated everything from terrorism to gang crime as an undercover journalist and now as LBC’s Crime Correspondent, said: “Every crime has a story – but the real drama is what happens behind the scenes. The stuff that doesn’t make the news.
“The Crime Agents will pull back the curtain to reveal what’s really going on, as it’s happening. This will be true crime like you’ve never heard before. I’m so excited to launch this podcast with my fellow Crime Agent, as we bring you these untold stories.”
Vicky Etchells, Director of Global Podcasts, added: “The Crime Agents is exactly the kind of bold, insightful, and thought-provoking podcasting we aim to bring to our listeners.
“With Neil’s unparalleled experience at the highest levels of policing and Andy’s fearless journalism, The Crime Agents will not just report on crime but will answer the big questions in the world of law and order, challenge assumptions, and give a voice to those on the frontlines.
“We’re thrilled to add this powerful new series to our Global Original podcast slate.”
The Crime Agents launches on 25 June and will be available every Wednesday on Global Player or wherever you get your podcasts.
