The Independent Podcast Awards to return this year

It’s been confirmed that the Independent Podcast Awards will return this year with entries opening in the spring.

The awards, which were launched last year by whynow and Verbal Diorama, will take place this year at Kings Place in Kings Cross on Wednesday 23 October.

Last year, over 350 entries were received, with more than 130 being shortlisted across 22 categories. The overall Independent Podcast of the Year was won by Celebrity Catchup: Life After That Thing I Did, hosted and produced by Genevieve Hassan.

Emma Turner, Head of Events & Publicity at whynow said: “We’re delighted to be bringing the Independent Podcast Awards back for their second year. We were blown away by the response last year, and we’re hoping that many more independent podcasters will enter their shows into this year’s awards.”

Em McGowan, co-founder of the awards and Host & Producer of Verbal Diorama added: “It was great to see the indie podcasting community get behind the awards last year, and I can’t wait to see what excellent shows get entered this year. We’ve got some new categories this year too, which will hopefully make the event even more accessible and inclusive.”

You can get more details at the Independent Podcast Awards website and sign up for the newsletter and hear when entries open.

Those behind the awards are looking to broaden the team of judges, so if you’re interested in getting involved or who would like more information about what it entails, email Emma Turner on emma@whynow.co.uk.
