Wondery launches new podcast revealing global environmental crime stories

Wondery is launching Lawless Planet, a new true crime podcast exploring the hidden world of environmental crime and corruption.

Hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist Zach Goldbaum, the series combines meticulous reporting with cinematic storytelling to reveal true stories of people fighting on both sides of humanity’s greatest crisis.

Each episode moves beyond traditional climate reporting to expose organised crime, conflict, and exploitation, from illegal deforestation to corporate fraud, showing how greed and power fuel environmental battles.

Wondery says it features tycoons, activists, and spies locked in a struggle for the planet’s future, creating a bold narrative-driven series using its trademark immersive style to confront the urgency of the climate crisis.

Host Zach Goldbaum has produced several acclaimed films for The New York Times, including Meet the World’s Most Honorable Bank Robbers and Heartache in the Hot Zone with Nicholas Kristof, both of which won Emmys.

As host of Viceland’s Noisey, he interviewed artists like Kendrick Lamar and reported on global issues such as police violence in São Paulo and Islamophobia in Paris.

His writing has appeared in VICE Magazine, and his investigation into Detroit’s violent relationship with Cartier sunglasses was a cover story for the Detroit Metro Times.

Lawless Planet will launch on Wondery+ and all podcast platforms weekly from 28 July.
