Audible has launched Beyond Suspicion: The Criminals Who Betrayed Our Trust, hosted by award-winning broadcaster Yinka Bokinni.
Across seven episodes, the Audible Original explores real-life cases in which criminals were hiding in plain sight, using everyday personas to mask abuse, manipulation and even murder.
The series includes the cases of football coach Barry Bennell, broadcaster Huw Edwards, surgeon Ian Paterson and more.
Using storytelling with analysis, each episode opens with a cinematic reconstruction of the subject’s life and crimes, told with Yinka’s narration and an original score from composer Tom Kinsella.
Featuring expert analysis from the likes of criminal psychologists Dr Julia Shaw and Dr. Keri Nixon, barristers Nneka Akudolu KC and James Counsell KC, and former Detective Chief Inspector Howard Groves, each episode is a roundtable discussion between Yinka and guests.
Archive news footage and voice recordings from those close to the cases feature to give a unique audio experience and deeper understanding of the motivations, consequences, and truth behind each shocking betrayal.
Yinka Bokinni says: “Working with Audible and being able to create this original podcast has been truly eye opening.
“What struck me most while making this podcast is just how normal these people appeared to everyone around them.
“These are stories not just of crime, but of trust, deception, and silence. We owe it to the victims to understand how this happens so it might never happen again.”
Known for presenting the Capital Xtra Breakfast Show and several award-winning documentaries, Bokinni also has a background in law which adds another dimension to the analysis, so she can navigate the complexities of the judicial system and sentencing.
Beyond Suspicion: The Criminals Who Betrayed Our Trust is be available from today, Wednesday 30 April at www.audible.co.uk. Membership may be required.
