Special editions of My Radio 1 Podcast to release for New Year

Two brand new editions of My Radio 1 Podcast are to be released on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The series celebrates the station’s classic era during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, talking to the presenters and producers behind its success.

Former Top 20 host Tom Browne will be chatting with Shaun Tilley and recalling highlights from his six years on Radio 1 between 1972-78.

Tom recalls how he was plucked from virtual obscurity to replace Alan Freeman on the Sunday chart show and the times he interviewed Abba and Queen during the height of their success.

This episode will be available from 6pm on Sunday 31 December.

The second special episode sees Shaun joined by some of the DJ’s for ‘My TOTP at 60 – The Radio 1 Years’. It’s a celebration of the special relationship Top of the Pops and Radio 1 enjoyed during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

Sharing their memories will be former hosts Pete Murray, Tony Blackburn, Johnnie Walker, Rosko, David Hamilton, Kid Jensen, Peter Powell, Mike Read, Andy Peebles, Simon Bates, Steve Wright, Richard Skinner, Gary Davies, Bruno Brookes, Simon Mayo and more.

There will also be archive chats from David Jacobs, Dave Cash and Ed Stewart alongside classic clips and rare recordings of all those presenters in action fronting the BBC’s most iconic TV music show.

The podcast will be available on all platforms from 7pm on Monday 1 January, exactly 60 years since the first ever edition of Top of the Pops was broadcast.
