The Crossbow Killer investigates brutal murder on Anglesey

The Crossbow Killer shines a light on one of the most complex and chilling cases in Welsh criminal history.

From BBC Wales, the podcast explores what led to a 74-year-old man being shot with a crossbow through the chest as he fixed his satellite dish one spring night on Anglesey.

By unravelling the brutal murder of retired lecturer Gerald Corrigan in 2019, that was described by one newspaper as a “medieval style execution”, the six-part series asks why this mild-mannered pensioner, with seemingly no enemies nor links to criminal activity, was killed in this way.

It also investigates the weird and complicated maze of double-crossing, extortion, horse-napping and financial greed that led to his death.

These questions take the audience down a set of rabbit holes – all playing out amongst the tight-knit communities and dramatic landscapes of Ynys Mon.

The podcast includes exclusive testimony from the victim’s daughter and maps out the possibilities by piecing together the fragments from reporters gathering leads, blind alleys, and dead ends.

Tim Hinman narrates, and the music is composed by Mark Roberts – formerly of Catatonia and Welsh band Y Cyrff. There’s also a specially composed poem by one of Wales’ Chaired Bards, Rhys Iorwerth.

The first two episodes of The Crossbow Killer will be available BBC Sounds on 11 July, with the following four released weekly after that.
