Zoo Expert Alice Vassallo’s podcast tells stories of Asshole Animals

Asshole Animals is a podcast giving animals with a bad reputation a new PR image and reveals mean creatures and their shenanigans.

Hosted by wildlife comedian and zookeeper Alice Vassallo from Cambridge, the podcast dives into the behaviours of the most expected and less expected “assholes”.

Each episode, Alice and her expert guest break down the behaviour of their chosen animal, rating them out of five on the “Asshole Scale”.

The show ends with a conservation message, focusing on issues that the animal is facing, in the wild or otherwise, because it’s important to love all creatures great and small – even the assholes.

Both educational and entertaining, the podcast also engages in discussions with guests around the ethics of zoo keeping and nuances of keeping certain animals in a zoo.

Alice is passionate about raising awareness around the mental health of zookeepers and advocating for better pay, safer working conditions and positive work culture for the industry’s professionals.

Guests lined up include famed YouTuber and Wildlife Educator Coyote Peterson and Wes Larson, Bear Biologist and host of animal attack podcast “Tooth and Claw”.

Alice says: “Life as a zookeeper is incredible and I’ve had the privilege of spending time and taking care of some of the many wonderful animals with whom we share our planet. But what has always fascinated me the most is that, just like with people, some animals have the tendency to be absolute assholes. The podcast is my way of educating the public about the natural world: by not taking it too seriously!”

Two episodes of Asshole Animals released each month on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. You can also subscribe on Patreon to support the podcast.
